Well, I got into Acting and Modeling in a pretty interesting way. I had undergone intensive training in modern contemporary dancing as well as in bollywood dancing, both in India and abroad. I went to Mumbai to launch my bollywood music video, which was very well received in the industry, and post which I started getting offers for modeling and acting and hence I got into that as well. • What made you venture into the arena of anchoring? I love the stage and I am good with people, so compeering events and anchoring came very naturally to me. It also complements my work as model and an actor, as anchoring gives one great exposure and publicity in high profile events. • A sneak peek into your career graph… Played the main lead in the short feature film ‘The Sentence’, directed by Abhishek Joshi, which was shown in the Cannes Film Festival, May 2011. Acted as one of the mail female leads in the film ‘One Step Away’ directed by Gurvinder Chadha, Concorde Films, Mumbai. Acted in the famous Hindi playwright, Mohan Rakesh’s renowned Play ‘Adhe Adhure’ as well as in ‘Khoob Milayi Jodi’, a Hindi Comedy, both directed by Rajesh Babbar, Pratibimb Kala Darpan. Acted in the plays ‘Bhoomi’ and ‘Naughty @ Forty’ by Director Yasin Khan, Indu Arts & Film Society. I have done acting courses at The National School of Drama, The New York Film Academy, Berkeley Repertory School of theatre and San Francisco Acting Academy. Played multiple character roles in 'Balaji Telefilm' Serials (Ekta Kapoor), namely, 'Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki'; 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'; 'Kesar and 'Karma' by Sony Productions. Played the role of the sophisticated 'Star Anchor' for the opening episode of their serial ‘K Street Pali Hill. I have done a variety of character roles on stage and theatre in New York, San Francisco and Singapore, including Organic and Method Acting and Voice Training courses, amongst others. I have done Bolllywood Dance Shows in multiple cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, amongst others, as well as Perform and Choreograph BOLLYFIT Shows and music videos. I played the main lead and choreographed a music video recently directed by Yasin Khan, for the album ‘Pyaar Ibadat’, Zia Productions. I performed in the MTV-PNC (Pritish Nandy Communications) Music Video Promo, aired recently on MTV. I also staged a BOLLYFIT show at the ‘Youth Nexus Festival’ on behalf of Reebok and sponsored by the Hindustan Times. I teach Bollywood Dance and BOLLYFIT in multiple schools today including the American, German and British Schools in New Delhi, as well as in premium clubs in India and abroad. I have trained in multiple dance forms including the Flamenco, Latin dances, Jazz and Modern Dance at Arthur Murray Dance Studios in New York, San Francisco and Delhi School of Music. • Bestowed with multi-faceted skills, how do you balance your hectic schedule? Well, I certainly need to divide my time and prioritize my activities and time according to my shows and programs. My schedule gets very hectic at times, especially when I am traveling, but then my passion for all aspects of my work and the rewards thereof, keep me going. • Your Bollyfit Dance Program is getting very popular…what made you conceptualize it? A walk through it…. Well, when I moved back to India in 2004, I was found that our people were getting increasingly fitness conscious, and are constantly looking for new, innovative and fun ways to work out, lose weight, without getting bored. It was also around that time, that bollywood and ‘indipop’ music underwent a huge change and became more in sync with international sound and faster beats, which also gave birth to ‘bollywood remix’ music and new bollywood dance choreographies, all of which became a huge hit globally. So I experimented and conceptualized BOLLYFIT, a vigorous fitness dance exercise which is a fusion of bollywood, bhangra, flamenco, modern contemporary, jazz and hip-hop dance steps with international dance aerobics, step dance aerobics and cardio kick-boxing moves to bollywood music at 140 beats per minute (bpms), the fastest in the fitness dance industry globally! BOLLYFIT has glamorized ‘fitness’ in India and abroad as it is the first fitness dance program to be taught in nightclubs and discotheques, which has been a great hit, as for the first time, a fitness workout has moved out from Gyms and Fitness Clubs, to Nightclubs. Also, being and actor, model and a dancer, I have conceptualized BOLLYFIT shows! BOLLYFIT sculpts your body like a Dancer's' and is a sure shot calorie burner. The fitness dance moves work out each and every muscle in your body in a very distinct way, all very addictive and help you actually de-stress and unwind as you workout. “My classes are fun, high energy, fast paced and rejuvenating. ‘It is actually not just about losing weight, but about keeping fit; improving flexibility, stamina, endurance, strength and leading a high-energy life. People join the ‘BOLLYFIT’ Program to work out in high energy and power filled group fitness classes.” • Movies, plays….in the pipeline I can’t talk much about the movies yet, but there are two crossover films in the pipeline with Directors based in New York and in LA. I am involved with a few theater groups in Dehli and Mumbai and will be doing a few plays from March onwards. • Fitness Mantra I workout and dance for atleast 2 – 3 hours every day (ofcourse it varies in time duration and intensity); I try and sleep atleast 8 hours on most nights when I don’t have evening engagements; I am a pure vegan and eat small meals at regular intervals and last but not the least, I pray a lot for spiritual peace and mental well-being. • Your idol and why? Jane Fonda is definitely my idol and infact when I was in my teens, I used to always say that “one day I would like to be the Jane Fonda of India”. Actually my story has pretty much followed her route of being an actor and model and getting into dance aerobics and glamorizing fitness. Ofcourse, I took the bollywood music and dance route and combined it with different fitness forms for BOLLYFIT dance glory! • A typical day in your diary • CSR Activities… I am an avid philanthropist and actively contribute in the corporate social responsibility domain (CSR) with many Children and Girl foundations like Samarpan, the Rai Foundation in Delhi and Rajasthan. While I was in Hyderabad, I was involved in the blood donation camps conducted by the popular movie star Chiranjeevi, in collaboration with Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust (CCT), which has over 3.5lacs registered members. I have closely worked with Rakshana Deepam in Hyderabad, a home for over 40 men, women and children, all HIV patients, where I would regularly distribute books, medicines, clothes shoes and toys and above all spend some valuable time interacting with them. I have worked with Nirmal Hriday, an NGO run by the Mother Teresa Charitable Trust which supports old age homes in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, and provides shelter to over 300 destitute patients suffering from HIV and tuberculosis, by making quarterly donations of life saving medicines to the organization. I have strongly supported an NGO called Sharada Vidya Niketan which supports 3 primary schools running in Miyapur and Chandanagar in Hyderabad. Recognizing my work in combating HIV infection and caring for those living with HIV/AIDS, Confederation of India Industries (CII), the leading industry association of India elected me to be a panel member on the CSR Panel of CII Andhra Pradesh for the planning and implementation of CII’s National CSR Program in the state. Rapid Fire: • Favourite hangout – Shiros Nightclub (Delhi) • Love is…beautiful and I am a complete romantic! • Dream destination – the Maldive Islands! • Beauty secret – enough sleep, workout and dance and healthy food! • Passionate about learning and traveling! • Favourite food…Pan-Asian cuisine • Zodiac - Scorpio • Dream role…to play the role of a dancer in a movie and do one number that would rock the world! • Addicted to…Dancing and Music! • One thing that you wish to change about yourself…I wish I could be a better judge of people as I tend to take a lot of things at face value!
